Judo Western Australia is proud to recognise Maria Swan’s recent representation of Australia at the 2025 Upper Austria Grand Prix, held from 7-9 March. Competing in the Women’s Under 78kg division, Maria faced high-level international opposition in this prestigious event on the IJF World Tour.

After receiving a bye in the opening round, Maria took on Maria Hanstede of the Netherlands in the Round of 16. The match was closely contested, extending into golden score with both competitors receiving a shido during regular time. Unfortunately, Maria was held down in osaekomi for a yuko score, ending her run in the competition at this stage.

Competing at a Grand Prix event is a significant achievement, and Maria continues to gain valuable experience at the highest levels of international judo. We congratulate her on her performance and look forward to seeing her continued progress on the world stage.
